Teenager Opens Haunted House in Jacksonville

October 13, 2009

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ — The Night Terrors Haunted House opened its doors to the public on Friday, October 2, but it’s not the screams on the inside that will get your attention – it’s the story behind it.

The Night Terrors Haunted House is the dream of 16-year-old Creekside High School student Jordan Renda. Renda, who moved to Jacksonville from Ohio several years ago, noticed that the city lacked a proper scaring in the form of professional haunted houses. So he set out to change that.

“He first approached us several years ago,” says father Phil Renda. “Initially we put him off and told him to focus on schoolwork and baseball, then he came back to us when he was 14 after doing additional research and presented both a business plan and a financial plan, that’s when we knew there was more to this than things that go bump in the night.”

Noting the teenager’s passion, the Rendas reconsidered and mother Shari Renda decided to get involved with her son’s haunted passion: “We decided that if this was his dream then I would partner with him and help him make it a reality.”

The two did additional research, learned about the haunted house industry and attended several industry conferences. After more than a year of research the Rendas decided to back Jordan’s business venture in December of 2008. During the summer construction began and Jordan’s passion for fright began to take shape. It was at that time that this 16-year-old came to a very scary crossroads: pursue his first passion, baseball, or set off on a haunted journey as an entrepreneur. He chose the latter.

But the story doesn’t end there. Jordan Renda has grander, spookier plans. His ghoulish goal is to operate multiple haunted attractions in the coming years and take his passion for haunts all the way to the bank.

Night Terrors Haunted House is located at 11112 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville FL. Doors open at 7 pm Thursday through Saturday throughout October. Special presentation Sunday October 25 at 7 pm. See website for more details.
