ST. LOUIS, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Educators have long recognized the correlation of physical fitness to success in the classroom. That is why this fall, Missouri University of Science and Technology is opening its newly renovated student fitness center. The first phase of the $7.4 million athletic facility upgrade is complete and available to Missouri S&T's 6,800 students and student-athletes, as well as faculty, staff and alumni. The project is being funded in part by the generous donations of alumni and corporations, including a $1 million gift from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation.
The Anheuser-Busch gift will be announced during formal dedication ceremony prior to the school's Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 24.
"This state-of-the-art fitness facility will enhance the educational experience of our students by providing them a place to exercise and improve their bodies as well as their minds," said John F. Carney III, chancellor of Missouri S&T. "Anheuser-Busch is to be commended for their continuing commitment to our institution, our students and the future business leaders of our state."
Some features of the updated facility include:
- New fitness center, featuring state-of-the-art cardio and weight equipment
- Designated varsity weight room and fitness center for intercollegiate athletes
- Mechanical equipment to air condition all three areas
"As one of Missouri's largest employers, we know first hand the quality of graduates produced by Missouri S&T and their importance to companies across the state," said Peter Kraemer, vice president of Supply for Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "We hope the S&T community will enjoy this new fitness center and varsity facilities, and that it will provide students a place where they can work on their personal wellness and conditioning."
Investing in education has been at the core of Anheuser-Busch's giving philosophy, especially in its home state. In addition to Missouri S&T, earlier this year the company announced several donations to directly benefit several Missouri-based institutions, including the University of Missouri-St. Louis, Saint Louis University, Harris-Stowe State University and Fontbonne University, as well as organizations focused on supporting educational opportunities, such as College Bound and Teach for America.
