Deloitte Announces 2009 Greater Philadelphia Fast 50 Rankings
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ – Deloitte today released the 2009 Greater Philadelphia Fast 50, an annual ranking of the fastest growing technology, life sciences and cleantech companies in the Greater Philadelphia region based on five-year fiscal revenue growth. An awards ceremony was held October 22nd at the University City Science Center.
“The 2009 Greater Philadelphia Fast 50 program recognizes and honors the technology, life sciences and cleantech companies that contribute to the growth and innovation in our region,” said Tara L. Weiner, managing partner, Greater Philadelphia region, Deloitte LLP. “I am proud to celebrate all the ranked companies for their remarkable achievements.”
Of the winning companies, 60 percent are in the technology industry, 36 percent are in the life sciences industry and the remaining 4 percent are from the cleantech industry. The average growth rate of this year’s recipients fell by 315 percent to 458 percent in 2009, down from 773 percent in 2008. Overall, award winners for 2009 had five-year growth rates ranging from 80 percent to 4,984 percent.
“The growth rate achieved by these winning companies is truly impressive given the economic environment and the recession during the past 21 months,” said Weiner.
First-time recipients comprised 18 percent of the 2009 Greater Philadelphia Fast 50 companies while 82 percent represented repeat winners. Overall, there is an equal mix of public companies (50 percent) and private companies (50 percent). From across the Greater Philadelphia region, 84 percent of the 2009 Greater Philadelphia winning companies are from Pennsylvania; 14 percent from New Jersey; and 2 percent from Delaware.
