Brunswick Group Adds Top Kennedy Aide to Washington D.C. Office

October 28, 2009

WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ — Brunswick Group LLC, a leading global communications firm, today announced that senior Congressional staffer Anthony Coley will join the firm’s Washington D.C. office as a Director. Coley most recently served as Communications Director to the late-Senator Edward M. Kennedy and the Senate’s Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, which Kennedy chaired. Coley was Kennedy’s chief spokesman to national media, and provided strategic communication guidance on HELP Committee priorities, including national health care reform. At Brunswick, Coley will focus on critical communications assignments involving public affairs, issues management, public advocacy and crisis communications.

“Brunswick has established an excellent reputation and has its hand on the pulse of Washington D.C.,” said Coley. “A firm with Brunswick’s local influence as well as seamless international reach is hard to find. It is truly a unique place and I am proud and excited to be a part of its talented team.”

“Anthony is a rising star steeped in the tradition of Kennedy staffers – smart, strategic, practical, connected and someone with a great heart. He had many options after Senator Kennedy’s sad death and we are grateful and flattered that he chose to join us,” said Hilary Rosen, managing partner of Brunswick Group’s D.C. office.

Coley returned to Capitol Hill in 2008, having spent the previous two years in Trenton, New Jersey, serving first as Governor Jon S. Corzine’s press secretary and later as his communications director. Citing his handling of two major crises (the one week shutdown of New Jersey state government and Corzine’s near-fatal automobile accident), the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) New Jersey chapter named Coley its Public Relations Professional of the Year. In awarding Coley the top award, PRSA described him as a “superb model of communications excellence.”

Before moving to New Jersey, Coley was then-Senator Corzine’s spokesman in Washington D.C. A veteran of Capitol Hill, Coley has also served as communications director for U.S. Senator Zell Miller and U.S. Representative Harold Ford, Jr. During the 2004 election cycle, he was a spokesman and regional communications director for the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.

A native of LaGrange, North Carolina, Coley received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.

Coley officially joins the Brunswick Washington D.C. office on November 30, 2009.
