Global Sources' China Sourcing Fairs expand to South Africa in 2010

HONG KONG, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Global Sources (Nasdaq: GSOL) today announced that South Africa will be the newest location for its expanding series of China Sourcing Fairs. The events, to be held December 2010 in Johannesburg, are expected to mark the first time such a wide variety of China-made products will be exhibited in any African country.

The new China Sourcing Fairs are timed to address Africa's growing demand for China-made products. Mainland China's exports to Africa grew 39.5 percent in the first seven months of 2009, totalling US$27.92 billion.

"There is increasing demand for China-made products in developing markets," said Sarah Benecke, Global Sources' Executive Director. "In many of these economies, a middle class is emerging and demand for consumer products is growing. As mainland China produces a dominant share of the world's consumer goods, there is a strong fit between our China Sourcing Fairs and these growing markets."

The event will feature co-located specialty shows for exhibitors of gifts and premiums, home products, electronics and components, hardware and building materials, baby and children's products, and garments and textiles. Global Sources estimates that the events will attract more than 500 supplier booths.

The China Sourcing Fairs in Johannesburg build on the success of the existing line up of Fairs in Dubai, U.A.E., and Mumbai, India, that take Greater China manufacturers directly to some of the world's fastest-growing consumer markets.

Our June China Sourcing Fairs in Dubai were also sold out in each of the three years we have held them there. In fact, exhibitor booth sales grew over 40% this year in Dubai, while qualified visitor attendance grew 50%.

"Johannesburg is the logical next location for the Fairs, as it serves as a primary trading center for all of Africa and it is a very convenient location for business people throughout Africa who sometimes have difficulty obtaining visas to other locations."
