Parachuting Santa and Live Holiday Entertainment Kick Off Moody Gardens(R) Festival of Lights Nov. 14

GALVESTON, Texas, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Festive sights and sounds will once again fill the air at Moody Gardens during the Festival of Lights Nov. 14 through Jan. 2. This annual holiday lighting event will feature a mile-long trail of over one million lights along with an Outdoor Ice Skating Rink and live entertainment nightly. As one of the largest holiday celebrations on the Gulf Coast, Festival of Lights receives over 85,000 visitors, many of whom have made the festival their own holiday tradition.

Santa Claus will kick off the eighth annual Festival of Lights on Nov. 14 by parachuting in to flip the light switch. The grand opening celebration will begin at 4 p.m. and feature a variety of holiday entertainment including performances by the Galveston Ballet, “Gift of Christmas Live” entertainers and Leah White and The Magic Mirrors. Visitors will also take on the Guinness challenge of world’s largest “Bah, Humbug!”

In addition to the 100 sound-enhanced, animated light displays, live entertainment and the ice rink, visitors can take pictures with Santa or watch various holiday films at the IMAX(R) 3D, Ridefilm and 4D Special FX Theaters. In the spirit of tradition, Polar Express 4D will return with interactive special effects like snow, wind and the smell of hot chocolate. In the IMAX(R) 3D Theater, visitors can see “Disney’s A Christmas Carol 3D” starring Jim Carrey on the biggest screen in the region. Friends, families and colleagues can celebrate the holidays over the annual Holiday Dinner Buffet at the Gardens Restaurant or, from Dec. 17 through Dec. 27, enjoy a night full of spectacular entertainment at the “Gift of Christmas Live Dinner and Show.”

Festival of Lights will be celebrated Thursdays through Saturdays between Nov. 20 and Dec. 16 and daily starting Dec. 17 through Jan. 2, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission to Festival of Lights is $5.95, and tickets to additional attractions including the Aquarium Pyramid(R), The Light Before Christmas IMAX(R) 3D film, holiday Ridefilm, Discovery Museum and Colonel Paddlewheel Boat, can be purchased for $5 each with a Festival of Lights ticket.
