DALLAS, Nov. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- If your family gives you more indigestion at Thanksgiving than the turkey, Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE: BBI, BBI.B) has a list of movies that will help you see it's all relative. In a recent poll conducted on blockbuster.com, movie fans named which films featuring Thanksgiving celebrations make them most grateful about spending time with their own families during the holidays.
Topping the list is "Nobody's Fool," which features Paul Newman playing Sully, a cranky, sarcastic patriarch who is given a chance to make up for years of bad decisions when his son and grandson unexpectedly show up for Thanksgiving dinner. Forty percent of those polled by Blockbuster named this film's turkey day celebration as being the most dysfunctional. As one character in the film quips as guests gather for dinner, "Welcome to the Thanksgiving from hell."
A close second, with 30 percent of votes from movie fans, is "Planes, Trains & Automobiles," which features Steve Martin struggling to get home for Thanksgiving while being unavoidably accompanied by the endlessly irritating shower curtain-ring salesman Del Griffith, played by John Candy.
The Most Dysfunctional Movie Thanksgivings, according to the poll conducted this month and which received approximately 8,800 responses, are:
- Nobody's Fool
- Planes, Trains & Automobiles
- Home for the Holidays
- Scent of a Woman
- Pieces of April
- The Ice Storm
- Hannah & Her Sisters
- The House of Yes
Those who want to feel better about their own family's idiosyncrasies can rent the Most Dysfunctional Movie Thanksgiving films online at blockbuster.com or at participating BLOCKBUSTER® stores.
