Journalist Publishes First Novel Depicting Journey of Forgiveness

December 1, 2009

LAKE WORTH, Fla., Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ — “A Wasted Life” (published by iUniverse) by author Marlo Scott is a heart-felt novel exploring a dysfunctional father-daughter relationship that transpired from a series of decisions based on selfishness, pride and addictions.

Told through two people’s eyes, Nina and her father Joey Martino, “A Wasted Life” begins as Nina and her Italian-American family is celebrating the holidays, enjoying their Christmas Eve feast. Nina is unexpectedly interrupted by a phone call from her estranged father, forcing her to recall many turbulent and violent memories from her childhood that left a damaged and continually deteriorating relationship between the two of them.

A once powerful air traffic controller and ruthless union leader, Joey Martino is a shadow of his former self, living in a small apartment in the Bronx with hardly two nickels to his name. The unfortunate part is that Joey is dying of cancer and wants to break the news to his daughter. What follows is a tormented person’s road to finding himself and the path to forgiveness. Through Nina and Joey’s eyes, “A Wasted Life” reveals the regret of forgotten dreams and shows how family shapes every aspect of our being.

Scott’s idea for the novel began nearly ten years ago as she and her roommate, both journalists, challenged each other to pursue their goal of writing a book. While her writing got off to a slow start due to marriage, kids and a career, a series of tragic losses helped Scott realize life was too short to let her dreams go by.

As evident by the powerful and emotional story “A Wasted Life” portrays, Scott hopes her book will provide readers with a new-found enthusiasm for life, appreciation for loved ones, motivation to cultivate lost and new relationships and passion to pursue dreams.

A portion of the proceeds from, “A Wasted Life” will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
