More Than 3,000 People in 39 Cities Partake in Nationwide ‘CHINA Town Hall’ to Discuss Politics, Trade, and Transnational Issues, Including Climate Change
This one-of-a-kind, national forum allows Americans across the country to discuss concerns about U.S.-China relations with the Obama administration and leading specialists.
WASHINGTON, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — As COP15 gets underway, the National Committee on United States-China Relations is hosting the third annual CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections, providing cities across the U.S. access to experts on issues of most concern. The event comprises a national webcast followed by panel discussions spread across 35 cities in the U.S. and four in Greater China with more than 40 China specialists who will address China-related topics of particular interest to the local community.
“Developments in China, and America’s response to these developments, have a direct impact on the lives of just about everyone in the United States,” said Stephen A. Orlins, president of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. “CHINA Town Hall is designed to give people the opportunity to discuss these issues with America’s major China experts.”
Kurt M. Campbell, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs will kick off the event via live national webcast with a timely discussion on the latest developments in U.S.-China relations. Dr. Campbell accompanied President Obama on his recent trip to China.
The joint statement issued in Beijing by President Obama and President Hu outlined the two countries’ shared interests in building strategic trust, promoting global economic recovery and addressing the climate change challenge. Audience members across the country are expected to raise questions on these issues and others in the Q&A session with Dr. Campbell, moderated by National Committee Vice President Jan Berris, and with specialists on-site at their respective venues.
