MIAMI, May 5 /PRNewswire/ — O.J. McDuffie, former Miami Dolphins receiver, was awarded $11.5 million in Miami-Dade Circuit Court today in a medical malpractice lawsuit against former team doctor John Uribe, according to McDuffie’s attorneys, Stuart Ratzan and Herman Russomano.

McDuffie accused the doctor of malpractice and gross negligence in the treatment of a left big toe injury he suffered in 1999. McDuffie’s lawyers said an MRI showed the injury was serious, but the Dolphins told him the exam was inconclusive. His injury worsened as he continued to play with it. He has had three surgeries on the toe since 1999, and was released by the Dolphins on Feb. 28 after nine years.
