The Art Institutes International Minnesota Launches Audio Production Program

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 10, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — The Art Institutes International Minnesota is pleased to announce its new Bachelor of Science in Audio Production degree program with the first class being offered in January 2011. The mission of the Audio Production program is to prepare graduates for positions in live venue sound production, film, television, radio, and interactive broadcast mediums. The Audio Production program specifically offers training in the areas of audio production, music technology, synthesis and sound design, MIDI systems, and various recording techniques. The program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in audio engineering, music recording, radio and television broadcasting, audio equipment design, maintenance and repair, live venue and field recording, and audio sound design.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor 2010-2011 Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos109.htm), “Overall employment of broadcast and sound engineering technicians and radio operators is expected to grow by 8 percent over the 2008-18 decade, which is about as fast as the average of all occupations. … Employment of audio and video equipment technicians is expected to grow 13 percent, about as fast as average. …”

In the Audio Production program, students will start with acoustic, musical, and electronic audio basics while working with digital computer-based audio recording and editing programs. The program includes audio recording and post-production classes as well as courses in music and studio business. Students will also build on this foundation to study advanced musical production and engineering, Musical Instrument Digital Interface systems (MIDI), audio-to-video, and advanced mixing and mastering, as well as interactive media, media business, project management, and professional development. Students create a portfolio to showcase their skills in a variety of audio formats to present to prospective employers.

The program is designed to provide a creative, structured environment that encourages a combination of hands-on experience and technical knowledge using the type of equipment used in the industry today.
