SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — A free Family Day at the Museum of the African Diaspora Saturday, February 19, 2011, 11 am to 6 pm, offers visitors an opportunity to celebrate Black History Month in an enriching setting, thanks to the generosity of The Clorox Company.

“The Clorox Company is excited to be able to come alongside MoAD and help make it possible for families, friends and supporters to enjoy a free day during Black History Month,” said Erby Foster, Director, Diversity & Inclusion, The Clorox Company.

Visitors to MoAD February 19 will have much to explore. They can enjoy performances from the Oaktown Jazz Ensemble in the MoAD Salon 24 pm, and participate in an African American Quilting traditions art activity with Artist Nicole Dixon from 2-4 pm. They can also join a genealogy workshop in the Wells Fargo Heritage Center 12-4 pm. And throughout the day, guests may view the popular new visual arts exhibit, “Textural Rhythms: Constructing the Jazz Tradition, Contemporary African American Quilts,” which drew over 500 attendees during its opening reception on January 28.

“We are grateful to The Clorox Company for their support of MoAD and our Black History Month free family day program,” said Grace C. Stanislaus, MoAD’s Executive Director. “The Clorox Company has a long history of providing this kind of sponsorship that supports bringing diverse audiences together for fun and enrichment.”

ABOUT THE MUSEUM OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA

The Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) showcases the history, art and the cultural richness that resulted from the dispersal of Africans throughout the world with innovative and engaging exhibitions, education and public programs. Incorporated in 2002 as a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, MoAD opened its doors in 2005 in space contiguous with the St. Regis Hotel and Residences and in the historic Williams Building at 685 Mission Street at Third. MoAD was conceived as a cornerstone of the revitalization of downtown San Francisco, and has become an anchor with its neighbors, the San Francisco MoMA, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Zeum, and the Contemporary Jewish Museum, in making this dynamic cultural corridor a premier destination.
