Families Return to Their Favorite Beaches This Summer for Fun, Sun and Sand

May 6, 2011

WALTON COUNTY, Fla., May 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The quiet lap of water against sugary sands; a soft breeze coursing through untouched dunes; and the sounds of a child’s laughter and imprints of footsteps along the shore are the sights and sounds families are joyfully returning to this summer. Many families who had stayed close to home in years past due to an uncertainty are now returning to their favorite beaches along Northwest Florida’s Gulf Coast.

“We experienced an incredible spring,” said Dawn Moliterno, executive director of the South Walton Tourist Development Council, representing a popular string of 15 beaches along the Gulf Coast. “We were up nearly 20 percent this March and are delighted to be welcoming travelers back to our pristine white-sand beaches.”

Located along 26 miles of coastline, Beaches of South Walton attracts travelers with stunning white-sand beaches, 15 charming beach neighborhoods, rare coastal dune lakes and unrivaled cultural amenities. Neighborhoods such as Seaside, Sandestin, Grayton Beach and Rosemary Beach celebrate summer with weekly concerts, movie nights, live performances of children’s stories and all-American festivities reminiscent of a simpler time.

Signature events such as Digital Graffiti, coming to Alys Beach June 11, complement the weekly activities. As the world’s first outdoor festival dedicated to celebrating digital art, Digital Graffiti projects the colorful, imaginative artwork of talented international artists and designers onto the iconic all-white walls of Alys Beach. Ranked as one of the “Top 10 Big Money Tournaments” in the world, the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic, June 21-26, is the fastest growing fishing tournament on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Competitors and spectators can enjoy fireworks, a kick-off party, concerts and free movie showings, as well as Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort and the Village of Baytowne Wharf’s many other recreational offerings.
