NYC Launch of HUG JAPAN with Benesse Corporation – Art Charity to Benefit Those Affected by Japanese Tsunami, May 16th
NEW YORK, May 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ – On May 16th at NYC’s Gallery at the AIGA National Design Center, Hug Japan (http://hugjapan.jp) in collaboration with My Hope for Children (www.myhopeforchildren.org) will show works created by over 300 Japanese children who suffered through the Tsunami, and fear the damaged nuclear plant. Shortly after the disaster, children were encouraged to create art that reflected their reaction, in order to alleviate their pain. Their works show their minds. They are “The messages they want to write down now” and “The future they want to draw.”
Photographer Mayumi Suzuki (whose father is still missing due to the catastrophic effects) will also be showing photos taken of the visceral damage, and spirit of the survivors.
Join us for this special occasion in bringing awareness to Japanese sufferers in need by attending WE ARE HERE – little voice and art 3.11. At the gallery, attendees will be prompted to write messages for the children. Hug Japan will send the contributions to the children in Northeast Japan. Encouraging the children will lead to the encouragement of everyone else the area.
It is estimated that 25,000 souls have been lost, and another half million are without homes in Japan due to the violent forces of Mother Nature. Hug Japan was started in April 2011 by Satoshi Nakagawa and Benesse Corporation in order to deliver long-lasting and consistent support to the people who are suffering from the devastating earthquake and Tsunami that attacked Japan on March 11th, 2011.
