Largest worldwide showcase of cancer charities enlists artists to revive old songs and choose a cancer charity to receive proceeds. iTunes releases preview October’s full ‘American Collection’ of Songs To Fight Cancer.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 30, 2011

Pioneers For A Cure – Songs To Fight Cancer is marking over 2 years off fighting cancer with song downloads. Launched in April of 2009 offering 20 songs for download, PioneersForACure.org now raises funds for over 40 cancer charities through a ‘Donate and Download’ system.

‘The last two years have been very challenging and very rewarding,’ said Jon Madof, Outreach Coordinator for Pioneers For A Cure and himself an artist in the collection through his band Rashanim. ‘Our song raises funds for the Chai Lifeline, helping children with cancer, and can be downloaded here. Please give generously.’

Called ‘[A] stellar model of artist-driven grassroots philanthropy’ by National Geographic, the non-profit project records public domain songs, reinterpreted and made available for donations of as little as $1.99. This treasure trove of over 100 songs has been recorded by dozens of artists from around the world including Suzanne Vega, Ben E. King, Tom Chapin, Tom Verlaine, Matt White and David Broza. Proceeds from song downloads are donated to artist-selected cancer charities such as the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and Susan G. Koman for the Cure.

Almost half the donors from around the world have so far chosen to give $5, $10, and even $100 for each song because they know that 100% of the proceeds received by Pioneers For A Cure is sent to the cancer charity chosen by the artist.

‘The American Collection’, when released on iTunes in October 2011 as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will be the third full collection of Songs To Fight Cancer from Pioneers For A Cure. The original ‘Am Yisrael Chai Collection’ (2009) contained 18 songs by artists including David Broza, Frank London and Lorin Sklamberg of the Klezmatics, the New York Voices, Neshama Carlebach, and Tovah Feldshuh. The collection also features a ‘We Are The World’-style version of the anthem ‘Am Yisrael Chai,’ featuring 40 artists. This track enlisted the master mixing skills of the legendary legendary Bob Clearmountain, who has worked with artists including Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, and Bon Jovi. ‘The Israel Sessions‘ has just been released this month on iTunes and features 15 more songs, all recorded during a very busy two weeks in Israel. Top Israeli stars joined to fight cancer, including Yehoram Gaon, Nurit Galron, Ilanit, and Shai Gabso.

Pioneers For A Cure continues to enlist new artists and fund more cancer charities through the inspirational power of song. The use of public domain material ensures that all the proceeds are available to the cancer charities selected by the artists themselves. Positive press coverage has been received from major outlets such as National Geographic, the New York Times, Billboard, Sing Out! and the Jerusalem Post. Social media outlets have provided Pioneers For A Cure with the opportunity to reach out to the entire world to join the fight against cancer, for a song.

Have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day.
