Nation’s Top Pisco Brands Unite at Tales of the Cocktail
SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, 2011 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — In an unprecedented spirit of collaboration, the nation’s leading Pisco brands have united to create a Pisco Pavilion at this year’s Tales of the Cocktail event in New Orleans (July 20-24).
The Pisco Pavilion will take place at the Hotel Monteleone (Royal C & D Room) on Wednesday July 20, from 10:30am to 12:00pm. Visitors will taste the broadest array of premium Pisco offered at Tales of the Cocktail, while engaging directly with the importers and producers of the brands regarding ease of mixability and the broad diversity of Pisco grape varieties and styles being produced.
Pisco is a clear spirit, distilled from fresh wine and bottled at proof. Different from most spirits, Peruvian Pisco has no additives–no flavorings, no sugar, not even water–it is, simply put, the distilled essence of grapes. Pisco is a remarkably clean, smooth spirit, and as it never sees time in a wooden barrel, the unique flavors of each grape assert their personalities. The inherent sweetness of Pisco creates opportunities for a wide range of cocktails with fewer calories.
The Pisco Pavilion is a collaboration between nine leading Pisco brands: ORO Pisco, Campo de Encanto, BarSol, Inca Gold, Gran Sierpe, Pisco 100, Pisco O, Macchu Pisco and Don Cesar.
The past few years have seen a dramatic surge in the Pisco category. Sales of Pisco in the United States rose 88% in 2010, making it one of the fastest growing spirits in the US. In addition to a recent New York Times story on pisco, industry trade journals have featured it in several recent cover stories (eg Tasting Panel June 2011; Bar & Nightclub June 2011; Beverage Industry News February 2011) while leading mixologists continue to embrace Pisco for its exceptional flavor and supreme mixability. “The Pisco Sour is Latin America’s most elegant cocktail,” said Peter Gugni, proprietor of The Bedford, Chicago, Illinois. New brands of Pisco are also poised to arrive into the United States, preparing for a second “Pisco Boom” — following its Pre-Prohibition popularity.
“Pisco will be the next major spirits category to take hold in the US. It is imperative that we, the unified Pisco community, band together to steer this category’s unstoppable growth,” says Timothy Childs, Pavilion wrangler and co-owner of ClearGrape, importer of ORO Pisco and producers of The Pisco Book, a newly released comprehensive guide to Pisco.
