OMAHA, Neb., Aug. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The game of poker has made a strong comeback in the United States, some say due to the increasing visibility of organizations such as the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker, which both had amazing seasons. And with the recent news of baseball bad boy A-Rod being investigated by the MLB for playing in illegal poker games, “It’s no wonder that the game has an irresistible new appeal for a younger audience,” says avid poker player and author Andrew McLean.

In May, 18-year-old Lukas Berglund, from Uppsala, Sweden, became the youngest champion in the history of the WPT, and their ninth season ended with 29 players buying into the first WPT Super High Roller $100,000 event. The WSOP had their largest prize pool ever, with $191,999,010.

McLean, author of The Las Vegas Chronicles: The Inside Story of Sin City, Celebrities, Special Players and Fascinating Casino Owners, says that “people are drawn to the reverie of the game – everyone thinks they can win big.” An avid no-limit Texas hold’em cash and tournament player himself, McLean was also at one time a former casino executive and 12-year resident of Las Vegas, as well as a table games employee at the Flamingo, the Dunes, and Circus Circus. He has seen the game lose popularity and then reemerge through the years.

The Las Vegas Chronicles tells the true stories of the city’s most conniving mobsters and how they ran Sin City during its heyday. With his personal experience and vivid investigative style of writing, the book gives a unique perspective into the history of this extraordinary city and its rise to the top of the gambling world.

McLean is a graduate of Michigan State University, 1972, and resides along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. He is also the best-selling lead author of Investing in Real Estate (6th Edition) and co-author with George H. Ross, Donald Trump’s right-hand man in Trump Strategies For Real Estate: Billionaire Lessons For the Small Investor, published by John Wiley & Sons.
