Blightfighters.org Website/Blog Launched to Combat Billboard Proliferation
SAINT PAUL, Minn., Aug. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Blightfighters.org has announced the launch of a dynamic new website/ blog that has declared war against visual pollution, especially digital billboards. Its mission is to produce a powerful, national network of people who are actively engaged in combating visual blight in their communities. It will tell stories of those across America who are working together to push back against the billboard companies, especially the proliferation of DIGITAL BILLBOARDS. The time has come to stop these "weapons of mass distraction" and reclaim our roads from the billboard bullies that put financial gain ahead of the public interest. Without strong intervention, digital billboards will continue to multiply, which puts citizens at greater risk and blights our publicly-funded and scenic roadways.
"Chronicle of the Billboard Wars" Documentary
The website features video chapters from this on-going documentary that scenic advocate and nationally respected video producer Ossian Or is creating as he travels across America to places where these battles are being fought. To date, five chapters are posted including the impressive victories by the citizens of Rapid City, SD and Tacoma, WA who stopped digital billboard proliferation in its tracks at the city level. Their successes have inspired others to take on the challenge like St. Petersburg, FL. where the City Council got the strong message from the public that digital billboards are not wanted there.
A key goal of blightfighters.org is to be one of the best sources of up to date news and informa- tion about this important national issue that the media can use to identify people for interviews and content. It also contains a comprehensive list of links to other like-minded organizations in all fifty states that are fighting to keep their communities beautiful and safe.
