California Chosen to Host the 2012 World Bocce Championships
LIVERMORE, Calif., Aug. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The 2012 World Championships for the sport of Bocce will be coming to the San Francisco Bay Area in May of 2012.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC), Confederazione Boccistica Internazionale (CBI), and the Confederation Mondiale des Sports de Boules (CMSB) have selected Livermore, California’s Campo di Bocce as the venue for this International competition.
Top teams qualifying from more than 20 countries around the world will be competing at Campo di Bocce’s world-class eight-court facility from May 19th through 27th for the World Bocce title.
With an estimated 300 million Bocce enthusiasts throughout the world, 25 million in the US alone, Bocce is the fastest growing sport in the United States and the third most popular sport in the world behind only soccer and golf. National television, Internet broadcasts, magazines, radio, newspaper and social media will cover the variety of competitions that make up the event.
All matches and play will be open to the public with a small entry fee. Spectators are welcome to watch the professional Bocce players compete on the global level.
Partial proceeds will benefit the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford and the Taylor Family Foundation, committed to preserving the wellness and enhance the quality of life for children in Northern California living with life-threatening and chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities and youth at-risk through unique therapeutic experiences and support.
