First-Ever Urban Parent Expo to Be Held in Brooklyn
NEW YORK, Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The first-ever Urban Parent (UP) Expo will take place on September 24, 2011 at St. Francis College, located in the heart of Brooklyn Heights. Sponsored by Barclays and the NETS, the Expo is expected to draw Brooklynites from all over the borough. The UP Expo is the place for Brooklyn families to discover the best the borough has to offer them, creating a venue for family-oriented businesses and organizations to reach their core audience.
The Urban Parent Expo will include an exhibit hall featuring businesses and organizations from throughout Brooklyn, including local retailers, sports and recreational companies, nonprofit organizations, and professional organizing services. Morton’s Steakhouse, Queen Restaurant, and the retail store Giggle will all participate in the UP Expo raffle. Basketball & dance clinics with the NETS, author readings, live performances, and other activities for children will all be found in the UP Expo Kids Zone. Doors open at 10 am, and the Expo concludes at 3 pm.
The UP Expo was created by Bill Klein and Julie Amodeo, two Brooklyn parents that noticed there was no one-stop shop for parents to learn about different businesses and organizations in the borough. Taking their idea to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, NYC & Co, and Greater New York Chamber of Commerce garnered not only these organizations’ interest, but also their support. Barclays and the NETS soon followed, becoming platinum sponsors of the Expo. “Opportunities for children’s entertainment and enrichment are boundless, but the sheer variety of choices can be daunting, particularly for parents with hectic schedules,” said Bill Klein, one of the founders of the UP Expo. This event fills a need–providing parents with a venue to learn more about some of the best businesses and organizations in Brooklyn.
