De Niro going Hollywood as desperate producer

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Robert De Niro will
channel a real-life Hollywood producer in "What Just Happened,"
an independent film expected to include cameos from Sean Penn
and other stars.

De Niro will play a desperate movie producer hanging on to
the tattered threads of his career as he tries to maintain his
dignity while surviving the mounting humiliations of Hollywood.
His character will be based on Art Linson, whose credits
include "Heat," "Fight Club" and the upcoming "The Black

Linson, De Niro, and the actor's Tribeca Prods. partner,
Jane Rosenthal will produce. Barry Levinson will direct, with
shooting expected to start in the summer.

"The movie will capture Hollywood just as 'Wag the Dog'
captured Washington," said Rosenthal, who produced the 1997
Levinson-directed "Dog."

Internet billionaire Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner's 2929
Prods. will finance the film, which is budgeted in the $25
million range. It does not yet have domestic distribution.

De Niro is filming "The Good Shepherd," which he is
directing and starring in alongside Matt Damon and Angelina
