Williams leads ‘NBC Nightly News’ to yearlong win
By Paul J. Gough
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - More than a year after he
took over the anchor chair and with more than nine months
without permanent competition from either rival, "NBC Nightly
News With Brian Williams" closes out the year with a quarterly
win among evening newscasts.
The NBC newscast registered wins in total viewers and the
key adults 25-54 demo last week and in the fourth quarter,
Nielsen Media Research said Wednesday.
"NBC Nightly News" averaged 9.8 million viewers in the
fourth quarter compared with ABC's 8.6 million and CBS' 7.5
million. In adults 25-54, "NBC Nightly News" averaged a 2.6
rating vs. ABC's 2.5 and CBS' 1.9.
For the week ending December 23, "NBC Nightly News"
averaged 9.5 million viewers compared with ABC's 8.5 million
viewers and CBS' 7.6 million. It was the eighth consecutive
week that NBC's lead was more than a million -- and the first
time ever, the network said.
Among adults 25-54, NBC averaged a 2.6 rating, while ABC
had a 2.5 and CBS had a 1.9 for the week.
