LONDON (Reuters) - Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty, best known for his on-off relationship with supermodel Kate Moss, has been charged with possession of cocaine and heroin, British police said on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old rock star, a self-confessed drug abuser, is due to appear in court in London on Wednesday.
Doherty, who shot to fame as lead singer of The Libertines, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs in November last year.
He has been in the headlines since Moss was filmed apparently snorting cocaine, prompting several fashion labels to sever ties with the 31-year-old. Still images from the footage appeared in the Daily Mirror tabloid last September.
Police have urged Moss to return from the United States to answer questions related to the cocaine scandal, and say they are closing in on other suspects in the case.
Media reports say Doherty and Moss have split up.
