Martha Stewart to test launch new magazine

Posted on: Thursday, 12 January 2006, 00:49 CST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. on Thursday said it plans to test launch a new women's lifestyles magazine that targets a younger audience than its flagship publication.

The magazine, called, Blueprint: Design Your Life, is described as a guide to "decorate, dress, entertain and organize their lives," for the "modern, multi-tasking woman" between the ages of 25 to 45.

Flagship Martha Stewart Living is aimed at women 30 to 55, a spokeswoman said.

It had not yet been determined whether Stewart's name would grace the cover of the magazine, which is expected to debut in May 2006, the spokeswoman said.

Blueprint will have an initial rate base, or the number of copies it guarantees to advertisers to set ad rates, of 250,000.

A second issue is expected to roll out in August 2006, with an expectation for six issues to be published in 2007.

The launch is among some of the new projects Stewart has taken on since being released from prison last March.

"My desire has always been to create magazines and products that teach and inspire women to live artfully, practically, and well," Stewart said in a statement. Blueprint aims to provide "dozens of useful and beautiful ideas for (women's) complex, busy lives."

Stewart spent five months in prison for her March 2004 conviction for making false statements about a stock sale. A federal appeals court upheld the conviction on January 6.
