DiCaprio locks up prison drama
By Borys Kit
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Leonardo DiCaprio will
produce and possibly star in "Kite," a drama that examines gang
culture and guard corruption in the California prison system.
DiCaprio and his partner in Appian Way Prods., Brad
Simpson, will produce the project for Warner Bros. At this
stage, it is viewed as a potential acting vehicle for him.
DiCaprio was last in theaters with his Oscar-nominated turn in
"The Aviator." He is currently shooting WB's "Blood Diamonds,"
directed by Ed Zwick.
The "Kite" script was written by Michael Lander and Ryan
Roy. They also wrote "Peacock," a much-buzzed-about screenplay
that didn't get picked up but did net them considerable
attention around town. As their follow-up, they put together a
pitch that because of recent prison riots now seems prescient.
