NEW YORK (Billboard) - MTV's Video Music Awards will return to their intimate New York roots this summer. The 23rd annual edition of the event will take place August 31 at the 6,000-capacity Radio City Music Hall and will air live on the music cable network.
In 2004 and 2005, the event was held at Miami's 20,000-capacity American Airlines Arena. Last year's event was overshadowed by Hurricane Katrina and a shooting involving rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight.
Radio City Music Hall will have hosted the event 11 times, more than any other venue, ahead of Los Angeles' Gibson Amphitheatre (seven times).
