Alcoa (NYSE:AA) announced today that it has opened a plant in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, to produce household wraps products, including foil, film and disposer bags. This is the first Alcoa facility in Bulgaria, making it the 43rd country in which the company manufactures products in addition to its sales and marketing offices throughout the world. The plant will produce packaging products under the Reynolds(R) brand and Baco(R) brand names for the retail markets in the U.K., Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
Production of aluminum foil and PVC film has begun and bag production is expected to begin later this year. At full operation, the plant expects to employ approximately 200 people.
"Alcoa Packaging Bulgaria provides a new platform for the global growth of Alcoa's Packaging and Consumer Products business. This plant will operate with the highest environment, health and safety standards, and strive to be an excellent member of the community," said Ruth Mack, Vice President, Alcoa and Group President, Alcoa Packaging and Consumer Products.
