Larter, Ashanti, Egan new “Residents” in sequel

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Ali Larter, R&B singer
Ashanti and Chris Egan have joined the cast of "Resident Evil
3," which starts shooting Monday in Mexico.
They join "Resident Evil" veterans Milla Jovovich, Oded
Fehr and Mike Epps in Screen Gems' videogame-based
Larter will play Claire, a new character to the film
franchise who was introduced in the video game "Resident Evil
2." Claire leads a convoy across the Nevada desert. Alice
(Jovovich) joins them in their fight for survival as they
battle the evil Umbrella Corp. Ashanti will play Nurse Betty,
while Egan will play Mikey. Fehr is back as Carlos, and Epps as
Russell Mulcahy is directing from a screenplay by Paul W.S.
Anderson, who also wrote the first two films ("Resident Evil"
and "Resident Evil: Apocalypse") and directed the first one.
Larter, whose credits include "Legally Blonde" and "Final
Destination," next appears in "Southland Tales."
Ashanti, whose credits include "Coach Carter" and "The
Muppets' Wizard of Oz," next appears in "John Tucker Must Die."
Egan next appears in the epic fantasy "Eragon."
