Hecla Mining Company (NYSE:HL) is pleased to announce that its Lucky Friday mine rescue team placed first overall in the annual Coeur d'Alene District mine rescue competition in northern Idaho hosted by Central Mine Rescue (CMR) on May 19-20. The Lucky Friday six-member team had to respond to emergency scenarios designed to test their readiness for real events. The Lucky Friday team nearly swept the event, taking first place in the field competition, bench and stretcher drill, BG 174-A bench (individual), multi-gas tester monitor bench (individual) and placing second in the first aid drill.
Four teams took part in the annual competition. The Lucky Friday team will now represent CMR at the national competition in Reno in July. CMR was originally formed as a coalition of mines pooling their mine rescue resources into one central location for coverage of all the local mines. CMR now covers mines all over the Western U.S.
