“Launch” DVD stays on No. 1 pad; “Pirates” growl
By Thomas K. Arnold
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Matthew McConaughey
romantic comedy "Failure to Launch" led the national video
sales and rental charts for a second week, according to data
Parker, has tallied $21 million in rental stores so far, nearly
one-quarter of its theatrical take.
Meanwhile, last weekend's record $136 million theatrical
opening of "The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"
helped propel its 2004 predecessor "Pirates of the Caribbean:
The Curse of the Black Pearl" to No. 2 on VideoScan's First
Alert's sales chart.
"Pirates" star Johnny Depp also grabbed the No. 10 slot on
the sales chart with the period drama "The Libertine."
The highest-charting new release was "The Matador," a black
comedy starring Pierce Brosnan. It debuted at No. 5 on the
sales chart and at No. 2 on trade publication Home Media
Retailing's video rental chart for the week ended July 9.
