Posted on: Tuesday, 5 September 2006, 09:00 CDT
Following the successes of "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday" and "Felicity: An American Girl Adventure," Warner Home Video (WHV) will offer consumers another classic American Girl story with the release of "Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front" on DVD November 28. The DVD, featuring the full-length, live-action movie along with extra content, will retail at $19.97 SRP.
Based on American Girl's bestselling Molly book series, "Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front" centers on Molly McIntire (Maya Ritter), a lively, loveable nine-year-old girl growing up in 1944 - a time when the world is at war and everyone is affected. Molly misses her father, a doctor by trade, who is overseas caring for wounded soldiers. She also doesn't like many of the changes war has brought back home, like rationing, her mother working outside the home, and not seeing her father on Christmas. But, with the help of her new friend Emily, an English girl who comes to stay with the McIntires to escape the bombing of London, Molly learns the importance of getting along and pulling together - just as her country must do to win the war! The cast also includes Molly Ringwald ("Sixteen Candles,""The Breakfast Club").
"Both 'Samantha: An American Girl Holiday' and 'Felicity: An American Girl Adventure' were well received by consumers, and we are delighted to offer this third American Girl feature length film on DVD," commented Dorinda Marticorena, WHV Vice President, Kids and Sports Marketing. She continued, "The American Girl stories help children get a better sense of America's history, by bringing to life significant events as seen through the eyes of a young girl. The movies are inspiring, enjoyable adventures that are exceptionally produced, written and acted, and what's important is that they stay very true to the books."
"Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front" is scheduled to debut on Disney Channel in November 2006. The DVD includes extra content featuring a tap dance lesson for girls so that they can dance along with the characters in the movie.
The first American Girl movie, "Samantha: An American Girl Holiday," aired on The WB on Tuesday, November 23 and Thanksgiving Day, 2004. It was watched by 6.0 million viewers and achieved a 5.3 rating among girls age 6-11. It was the second most watched movie on The WB after "The Wizard of Oz."
The second American Girl movie, "Felicity: An American Girl Adventure," aired on The WB November 29, 2005. Over 1.2 million videos of the first 2 movies have been shipped to date.
