U.S. Steel Names Anton Lukac General Manager of Mon Valley Works

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United States Steel Corporation today announced that Anton Lukac has been named general manager of Mon Valley Works, effective immediately.
In his new position, Lukac, 46, will be responsible for all U.S. Steel Pittsburgh-area steelmaking operations, including the Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, the Irvin Plant in West Mifflin, and the Clairton Plant, the company's coking and coal chemical operation in Clairton. Additionally, he will be responsible for the Fairless galvanizing facility located outside of Philadelphia. Lukac will report to George F. Babcoke, vice president-plant operations.

Lukac graduated from Technical University in Kosice, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He began his career at VSZ a.s. in 1982 as a technologist in the cold rolling mill. Over the next 16 years, he progressed through increasingly responsible positions in a variety of departments including microelectronics, technical development and engineering as well as accounting and finance. He also served as project manager for a VSZ-U.S. Steel joint venture in 1998-1999 and was then named chairman of VSZ OCEL, a steel manufacturing company, and vice president of technology for VSZ.
When U.S. Steel Kosice (USSK) was created in November 2000, he was named vice president for strategic implementation and reported directly to USSK's president. In that position, he was responsible for USSK's pipe and heating radiator operations, had oversight for 18 USSK domestic and foreign subsidiaries, supported regional development through the Economic Development Center, and led USSK's due diligence teams in exploring new business opportunities for U.S. Steel in Europe. In July 2003, Lukac moved with his family to the United States of America when he was appointed plant manager of U.S. Steel's Clairton Plant near Pittsburgh. His most recent position was plant manager-Edgar Thomson Plant.
