Ethiopia’s First Private FM Station Goes on Air

Addis Ababa, March 10, 2007 (Addis Ababa) – Radio Fana on Saturday inaugurated an FM 98.1 broadcast.

Inaugurating the FM broadcast, Minister of Information Berhan Hailu expressed his hope that the programmes would be contributing to the national efforts of development, democratization and good governance.

It is a pioneer privately-owned broadcast media founded in line with the broadcast and press law, he said.

The minister said there is favourable opportunity for investors to engage in the broadcast media.

Ethiopian Broadcast Agency deputy director Desta Tesfahun on his part said Radio Fana FM 98.1 is the first private media channel to go on air among those licensed.

The Fana FM 98.1 sets out on a daily 18-hour transmission.

Ministers, senior government officials and invited guests attended the inauguration.
