Probe into BSkyB Hold on Pay TV
March 21, 2007
AN inquiry has been launched into BSkyB’s domination of pay TV and its refusal to supply key channels to rival operators.
Broadcasting regulator Ofcom is to step in following complaints from cable TV service Virgin, as well as from BT, Setanta and Top- Up-TV.
BSkyB’s rivals are calling on Ofcom to refer the broadcaster to the Competition Commission.
The inquiry was triggered by a row over BSkyB’s refusal to provide its channels Sky One, Two, Three, Sky News and Sky Sports News to Virgin cable TV without a substantial price rise.
