O.J. Ordered to Hand Over $3,500 Account
A judge has ordered a Miami lawyer holding a trust account for O.J. Simpson to turn over the account’s funds to the estate of murder victim Ron Goldman.
Leonardo DaVinci Starke I must hand over the roughly $3,500 contained in a Wachovia Bank account in Miami on which he and O.J. Simpson were co-signers, according to court documents.
The money will go toward paying the $38 million judgment that Goldman’s father Fred obtained against Simpson in a civil suit accusing the former NFL star of the wrongful death of his son.
Simpson was acquitted of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in 1995, but he has failed to pay a $38 million civil judgment.
His NFL pension and Miami home cannot be seized.
The senior Goldman is aggressively seeking Simpson’s assets to satisfy the judgment.
Goldman’s lawyer David J. Cook said he found out about the Wachovia account after subpoenaeing the bank for financial records related to a line of credit issued to Simpson.
"This trust account is the proverbial tin can buried in the backyard," Cook said.
A phone number for Starke’s office was disconnected. He did not return an e-mail requesting comment.
