The Arizona crime statistics report also includes a comparison to the 2009 crime rates. Many of which show that crime in Arizona has decreased since last year. Recently, Phoenix Police Department spokesman Sgt. How Arizona Crime Statistics Compare to Other States

According to the FBI’s Crime in the United States 2009-2010 report Arizona ranks 16 for violent crimes and 13 for property crimes. When comparing Arizona to the rest of the country population needs to considered. Based on the 2010 census Arizona currently ranks 16th with a population of 6,392,017.

While the population has grown by 24.6% since 2000, Arizona has had a decrease in population since 2009 when the population was 6,595,778. The drop in population is likely a defining factor for the decrease in all types of crime in the state, with exception of murder (non-negligent and manslaughter) which the FBI found increased 7.6%.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics reported that violent crime in the U.S. dropped by 12.1% while property crime dropped 5.2% between 2009 and 2010. However, Arizona violent crimes dropped by 7.3% and property crimes dropped by 4.6%

CQ Press listed Arizona as the 9th most dangerous state in their annual State Crime Rankings which measure murder, burglary, rape, aggravated assaults, motor vehicle theft and robbery rates.
