Restoration Local Advises Preparation and Awareness for Severe Weather Season

Water damage restoration company offers advice on planning for this season’s severe weather events.

Cleveland OH (PRWEB) April 02, 2012

Restoration Local, one of the leading providers of water damage restoration services in the country, is advising people to begin making plans now for an action-packed spring and early summer as it pertains to severe weather.

The National Weather Service says that the peak time for tornado producing storms has already arrived in the Gulf States region and is expected to shift northward as the season progresses.

Unfortunately for many people, disasters do not occur with enough frequency to instill a sense of urgency in area residents when it comes to having a disaster contingency plan in place.

550 people died in the United States from tornado activity in 2011, most of them in the Midwest and southeast. This makes 2011 the fourth deadliest tornado year in history. Area communities are learning from that experience and making preparations well in advance of severe weather season this year.

The single most important item recommended is a weather radio or smart phone with a weather app installed. These provide timely weather alerts in the event that conditions in the immediate vicinity deteriorate rapidly.

Also helmets are recommended, since severe weather can produce airborne debris, not to mention actually propelling people through the air. Something is needed to protect the head from high impact trauma. Many of the fatalities in tornado ravaged Alabama in 2011 were due to head injuries.

People should also have a “safe room” in their home or business, one of the innermost rooms, without exterior windows, where they can take refuge when the weather gets particularly bad. The room should be equipped with radio/TV (preferably battery powered), helmets, non-perishable food, bottled water, medications; all stored in appropriate plastic storage bins.

In addition, far too many people tend to drop their guard when a storm doesn´t strike as predicted. Remember that these weather systems are unstable, and as a result unpredictable. Many times they come in waves, and if one storm doesn´t strike a certain area, there is a very good chance that the next one will. Be prepared to take cover before conditions get too bad.

Restoration Local is one of the leading providers of water damage restoration services. Based in Cleveland OH, they offer service in 30 states, 24/7 availability, and all work is guaranteed.
