York Bridge Concepts, Inc. Completes a Tree-level Timber Pedestrian Bridge with Safety as a Top Priority

May 29, 2012

A timber pedestrian bridge was chosen to add an architectural element to the peaceful setting at Wellstar´s new inpatient hospice center at Kennesaw Mountain.

Marietta, GA (PRWEB) May 29, 2012

York Bridge Concepts, Inc. (YBC) recently completed Wellstar´s 160-foot timber pedestrian bridge for their community hospice at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia. Founded in 1982, Wellstar is one of Georgia´s oldest hospital-based hospice programs. This 12 million dollar facility was care-designed by CDH Partners, Inc. to provide sensitive, compassionate support for over 1,500 patients, annually, who are in the final phase of terminal illness.

This timber pedestrian bridge was built with the environment in mind, using YBC´s deck-level construction method – building from the bridge itself. During this process, as much work as possible is done from the bridge deck, literally reducing the “footprint” of the bridge, protecting the surrounding environment. YBC´s construction team was tied off at all times during construction of the 20-foot high bridge, with the latest safety gear. Environmental safety, crew safety, as well as pedestrian safety, are top priorities for York Bridge Concepts.

Another feature of the bridge is YBC´s texturized polymer coating (TPC) which helps to ensure the safety of pedestrians and the longevity of the bridge. TPC is an acrylic-based deck coating that is available in any color. As opposed to other coatings, TPC protects wood structures by filling in the cracks and knots, locking down splinters and creating a slip-resistant and fire-resistant surface that will last for years. Non-toxic TPC is environmentally-friendly with its water-based, VOC-free ingredients. TPC also aids in preventing wood preservatives from leaching into the environment.

According to Cork Howard Construction Company´s´ General Contractor, Powell Turner, “We chose YBC to build our bridge because of their extensive experience.” The timber bridge can be found winding through a ravine, overlooking heavily-wooded grounds. It offers patients, visitors and employees a peaceful stroll with its carefully planned and constructed radius that curves from the parking lot to Wellstar´s new in-patient hospice center.

In conclusion, Turner stated, “The York team, from estimating to design, to installation and staining the bridge, did a great job. There were no challenges during the construction of our bridge. The York team made it easy on us.”
