The World Health Organization (WHO) selects “tobacco industry interference” as the theme of the next World No Tobacco Day, which will take place on Thursday, 31 May 2012.
The campaign will focus on the need to expose and counter the tobacco industry’s brazen and increasingly aggressive attempts to undermine the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) because of the serious danger they pose to public health.
Tobacco use is one of the leading preventable causes of death. The global tobacco epidemic kills nearly 6 million people each year, of which more than 600,000 are people exposed to second-hand smoke. Unless acted, it will kill up to 8 million people by 2030, of which more than 80% will live in low- and middle-income countries.
Tobacco smoke contains over 4000 different chemicals that is the direct cause of lung cancer and other serious illnesses that can lead to death.
Electronic cigarettes, also known as smokeless cigarettes, do not contain tobacco and there is not burning hence no harmful substances will be emitted.
E cig creates scented water vapor so they´re sometimes called vapor cigarettes.
The vapor quickly dissolves in air and has no negative effects on people around the ecig user.
While e cigarettes were invented as a smarter smoking alternative, many people have also quit smoking forever using an ecigarette.
Jamie Zickefoose, an electric cigarette user says: “I have been a smoker for 9 years, and smoke a pack a day. While smoking the e cigarette, I found that I smoked much less throughout the day. It was simple to put together and easy to use. I love it!”
Another smokeless cigarette user Shaun Groomes says: “I started smoking the ecig a few months ago. Since then, my regular habit has gone way down, and I barely find myself craving real tobacco anymore. My hometown has recently passed a smoking ban inside restaurants and bars – but if I get the feeling I want a cigarette while out, I can use my e cig with no questions asked.”
