There has been a 4% decrease in violent crime during the few months of 2012 compared to the same time period in 2011. However, there has a 7% increase in property crime. The most significant decreases were in homicide (-50%) and motor vehicle theft (-29%) offenses. These same trends hold true when compared to 2010.
The city of Omaha is split up into 4 precincts which are listed below.
Currently the city is looking for a new chief of police while combatting crime in the city. It will be Mayor Jim Suttle´s task to choose the chief once a panel has narrowed the 69 candidates down to only five.
