Cultural Olympiad Adds Color to the “White Nights in Perm”

In early summer, the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad presents a special program of activities as part of the “White Nights in Perm” music festival. In addition to six concerts by Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic of Russia aided by young stars of the Russian music scene, the audience will also be treated to liturgical works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, folk songs and popular arrangements performed by a choir of 100 participants, and rock, ethno music and blues from around the world.

In early summer, the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad presents a special program of activities as part of the “White Nights in Perm” music festival. In addition to six concerts by Vladimir Spivakov and the National Philharmonic of Russia aided by young stars of the Russian music scene, the audience will also be treated to liturgical works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, folk songs and popular arrangements performed by a choir of 100 participants, and rock, ethno music and blues from around the world.

From 6 to 10 June, the 3rd All-Russian Festival of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, “Vladimir Spivakov invites…” will be held in the Great Hall of the Perm Philharmonic Hall and the Festival Town. On June, 14 the Perm Regional Philharmonic will present a unique concert program, “Sergei Rachmaninoff – Church Music in Two Evenings”, consisting of cycles of “All-night vigil” and “Liturgy”. Two original works by the great Russian composer will be performed on stage for the first time at the Organ Concert Hall. Implementation of this ambitious project requires an incredible number of artists, with around 100 singers due to take part. And finally, the big “Movement” music festival is being assembled for a young audience, and will be held on June 23-24. “Movement” is an annual celebration of world music, which combines tradition and innovation, ethnic, classical legacy and avant-garde. The event will feature rock, blues and ethnic songs by groups from Spain, the UK, Macedonia, Belgium, Russia, Ukraine and other countries.

The Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is a uniqueproject by the organizers of the Games, offering the best cultural events in the country. In 2014 visitors to the Olympic host city will be able to evaluate not only the competition results but also the cultural diversity of Russia at a number of staging venues located in Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana. Therefore, since 2010, the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, along with dozens of regions throughout the country, has been carefully selecting the best of Russian culture.

From 2010 to 2014, thousands of different cultural events will take place across the entire country. Each year, the Cultural Olympiad is dedicated to a different art: 2010 was the Year of the Cinema, 2011 the Year of the Theater, 2012 is the Year of Music, and 2013 will be the Year of the Museum.

As part of the Year of the Theater of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad, around 800 events have been held throughout the country, attended by more than a million people.

The third year of the Sochi 2014 Cultural Olympiad is devoted to music. As always, the organizers of the first Olympic Winter Games in the history of Russia will present hundreds of the best cultural events to the public. Among them will be dozens of concerts and festivals with the best Russian and foreign classical and modern musicians, competitions, round tables and master-classes.

The national scale of the project will make it possible to involve every resident of the country in this grand celebration of music, maintaining and increasing the cultural riches of our country.
