The Skin Center Medical Spa Reports More Men Opting for Cosmetic Surgery Procedures and Medical Spa Treatments to Maintain Youthful Appearance

June 21, 2012

Women may be more open to discuss their favorite medspa treatments, but men are just as interested in maintaining a healthy, rejuvenated appearance. The Skin Center Medical Spa, with locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, is a favorite destination for men wanting to maintain or even re-capture a more youthful vigor.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 21, 2012

Growing numbers of male baby boomers — and their younger counterparts — are choosing to go beyond diet, exercise and lifestyle to achieve and maintain a healthier, more youthful appearance at The Skin Center Medical Spa with locations in Pittsburgh, PA and Columbus, OH.

According to a recent report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), men accounted for nine percent of all cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in the United States last year. Overall cosmetic surgery procedures in men rose six percent in 2011 over the previous year, with a total of 1.2 million surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures conducted.

The top five cosmetic surgery procedures for men were nose reshaping or nose job surgery (62,000); eyelid surgery (29,000); liposuction (23,000); male breast reduction (20,000); and facelift (11,000).

Nonsurgical procedures topping the list for men in 2011 were Botox® Cosmetic(363,000); laser hair removal (186,000); microdermabrasion (166,000); chemical peel (88,000); and soft tissue fillers or injectable wrinkle fillers (87,000).

Selected individual procedures saw significant gains among men in 2011, including Botox Cosmetic (up eight percent); male breast reduction (up eight percent); soft tissue fillers or injectable wrinkle fillers (up 11 percent); and facelifts (up three percent).

The Skin Center Medical Spa, Pittsburgh, PA and Columbus, OH, has seen a steady increase in male patients seeking cosmetic surgery and medical spa treatments for skin, face and body.

“Particularly in today´s work environment, men are every bit as concerned as women about keeping their competitive edge and presenting a healthy, vibrant appearance,” says board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dominic Brandy MD, medical director and founder of The Skin Center Medical Spa. “They want to physically project the confidence and vitality that they feel on the inside, and while they are less likely to talk about it, there is less stigma than ever before, and we are seeing more and more men taking measures to counter the visible effects of aging.”

Surgical procedures that have seen an uptick among Dr. Brandy´s male clients include the QuickLift mini facelift, a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that tightens sagging skin along the jaw line and chin, resulting in immediate, marked results. Developed by Dr. Brandy, this surgery permanently suspends the underlying structures of the lower face (SMAS), is performed under local anesthesia or with twilight sedation, and takes one to two hours to complete. Small incisions and shorter surgical time result in less swelling and bruising, and a shorter recovery period, with most individuals able to return to work within a few days.

SmartLipo, or laser liposuction, is an increasingly popular fat reduction treatment for men wanting to sculpt their abs and eliminate fat accumulation along the waistline. Also effective for gynecomastia, or enlarged breast tissue in men, SmartLipo laser liposuction uses a small laser probe, about the diameter of a paperclip, to liquefy fat so sutures are not necessary and scars are virtually undetectable.

For those looking to reduce stubborn pockets of fat around the waist without surgery, CoolSculpting® fat reduction by ZELTIQ® is a new FDA-cleared, non-invasive and clinically proven fat elimination treatment. Developed by Harvard scientists, this unique, patented fat reduction treatment uses a targeted cooling technology called Cryolipolysis to eliminate the fat cells underneath the skin without incisions, surgery or downtime.

Among the most popular minimally invasive treatments for men is laser hair removal, a hair reduction treatment that can be performed on all parts of the body, including neck, chest and back; the PCA Professional Body Chemical Peel, a chemical peel for addressing sun damage or those seeking clearer, more toned-looking skin; laser acne treatments for the face and body, including the back; and Endovenous Laser Therapy treatments for varicose leg veins.

For 31 year-old, Tony Trinso of Pittsburgh, treating the painful symptoms associated with varicose veins gave him an unexpected side effect — more confidence. “For the first time in fifteen years, I am wearing shorts. I haven´t worn shorts since high school,” said Trinso. “The bulging veins are totally gone and my legs look smooth and contoured, like they should. I am so happy I had this treatment. I was literally up and back at work the same day.”
