Simon King`s Utilities Group is now shipping MagicRAR 6.0, a data compression utility for Windows end-users, power users, systems administrators, and large corporate networks.
“Data compression algorithms have become commoditized, yet there isn´t a single compression utility in the market today built upon the recognition of this fact,” says Simon King, founder of MagicRAR. “The majority of compression vendors are promoting a particular algorithm at the expense of all others, instead of trying to combine them all to serve the ultimate goal of realizing the highest possible compression ratio in any given scenario.”
MagicRAR´s single-click “Find Smallest Archive” feature benchmarks 41 different compression algorithms on any collection of files/folders, engineering the objectively smallest compressed archive. “Completely taking the guesswork out of how to compress files to obtain the smallest possible size is made possible only by MagicRAR,” adds Simon King.
Because MagicRAR is plug-in extensible, adding support for new, innovative compression formats is as easy as installing their plug-ins. In fact, MagicRAR 6.0 includes a new “ZipX Plug-In” which adds support for WinZip compatible ZIPX archives, together with enhanced 256 bit AES data encryption.
MagicRAR 6.0 also fixes an NTFS compression bug first introduced in Windows Vista, and still present in the more recent Windows 7 and the latest Windows 8 versions. As documented at http://www.magicrar.com/drive-press.html, the Windows NTFS compression process fails to run properly when the “Compress drive to save disk space” option is selected, failing to convert a significant portion of the drive. MagicRAR 6.0 Drive Press realizes gigabytes more space savings, while still using safe and proven NTFS compression.
