Local business leaders join board of non-profit organization that provides mentors and educational scholarships for Florida´s low-income and at-risk youth.

Take Stock in Children Palm Beach County, a non-profit organization in Florida that provides mentoring and college scholarships to deserving low-income youth, recently elected Jeff Michaud, vice president of marketing at 3Cinteractive and William Shepherd, partner at Holland & Knight to its board.

Jeff Michaud is the vice president of marketing for Boca Raton-based 3Cinteractive and has been a managing partner at the company since 2005. Mr. Michaud is responsible for managing 3Ci´s brand direction and market positioning, product marketing, customer acquisition and sales support, as well as oversight of its corporate communications. In his time as the head of marketing with 3Ci, Mr. Michaud has helped guide the company from a startup to a consistently recognized leader in the enterprise mobile solutions industry. Prior to 3Ci, Mr. Michaud worked as a global account executive at MCI and Verizon Business where he helped launch and manage strategies in telecom and data networking for clients around the world. He has served as a Take Stock in Children mentor since 2010.
William Shepherd is a partner at Holland & Knight, LLP where he defends individuals and corporations in state and federal government investigations and grand jury investigations. He also assists the general counsel of public and private companies in conducting sensitive internal inquiries. Mr. Shepherd’s extensive trial practice background also serves to support his practice in complex civil litigation involving fraud and the False Claims Act. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Shepherd served, at the appointment of the attorney general, as the statewide prosecutor of Florida and earlier in his career, as a prosecutor in Miami, Florida. He has previously served as a Take Stock in Children mentor.

About Take Stock in Children
Take Stock in Children is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization with a solid 16 year history of providing mentors, educational scholarships and hope for Florida´s low-income and at-risk youth. The organization has provided educational support and college scholarships for over 17,000 children in partnership with more than 800 public schools throughout 67 counties in Florida. It is the only scholarship mentoring program with the mission of breaking the cycle of poverty through education, and has attained a high school graduation rate of 92 percent in Florida (as compared to Florida´s average graduation rate of 76%). The program´s multi-year commitment to students and their comprehensive program services begin in middle school and continue through high school graduation and into college. Special emphasis is placed on student accountability and specific measurable outcomes. Take Stock in Children students pledge to meet with their assigned mentor once a week, maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and remain drug and crime free. Upon successful high school graduation, as a fulfillment of their contractual agreement, students are then awarded a college scholarship to any college, university or vocational school in the state of Florida.
