New Round of Apprenticeship Funding Introduced
The government has introduced a new round of funding for higher apprenticeship schemes, according to National Apprenticeship Service
London, UK (PRWEB) July 13, 2012
Leading learning management software provider Perspective has welcomed the introduction of a host of new apprenticeship funding programmes.
Announced by business secretary Vince Cable, the new higher apprenticeship schemes will involve a number of sectors ranging from carbon engineering and aviation through to legal services. To encourage training providers to take on new apprentices, £6.5 million has been made available to develop the necessary places as part of the second round of the higher apprenticeship fund, which is worth approximately £25 million.
Speaking about the additional funding, Vince Cable commented that the new round of funding will target industries that “are threatening to choke off growth. Higher apprenticeships are an essential step in rebalancing our economy and building a fairer country where growth is spread evenly and opportunities are not limited to the privileged.”
Paul Davis, managing director of individual learning plan providers Perspective, expressed his pleasure that the government is continuing to diversify the funding of apprenticeships: “It´s pleasing to see the government making an additional effort to provide extra funding to encourage training providers to take on apprentices. At a time when long-term youth unemployment is increasing year-on-year, we´re glad to see this extra push being made to support young people in need of assistance and training.”
A number of leading businesses and training providers have been allocated part of the fund. PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) has been allocated £960,000 to develop some of the first higher apprenticeships in accounting and professional services at level 6 and 7. Meanwhile, Loughborough College received £500,000 in the second round to develop level 4 apprenticeships in the space engineering sector.
