Propecia Sexual Dysfunction And Other Sexual Side Effects May Lead To Depression And More
Men who experience Propecia sexual dysfunction often develop depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts according to a new study reported by Bernstein Liebhard LLP.
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 10, 2012
Men who suffer from Propecia sexual dysfunction and other sexual side effects often develop symptoms of depression and suicidal thoughts, a new study finds. Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing clients who have been injured by dangerous drugs and defective medical devices, reports on the August 7, 2012 study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry. Propecia (or finasteride) is a common male baldness drug that has been associated with sexual dysfunction and depression side effects. The firm is currently investigating Propecia lawsuits on behalf of individuals who experienced Propecia adverse effects.
Researchers in the study analyzed data from 61 former Propecia users who experienced persistent sexual side effects for three months or more, and a control group of 29 men who had never used Propecia. Neither group had any prior history of psychiatric or medical conditions. Researchers found:
- Propecia users had a 75 percent higher chance of reporting depressive symptoms;
- 64 percent of Propecia users suffered from moderate or severe depressive symptoms; and
- 44 percent of Propecia users experienced thoughts of suicide.
Researchers concluded that patients and doctors should be warned of the risk of the potential Propecia depression side effects, and called for further research.
Propecia Sexual Side Effects Worrying For Many Users
A July 2012 study in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that Propecia sexual dysfunction side effects may last months after patients stop using the drug. Long-lasting Propecia side effects are especially alarming considering the possibility of such severe psychological effects. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) has received over 400 reports of Propecia sexual dysfunction over 30 years, almost 60 of which lasted longer than three months after patients stopped using the drug. The FDA mandated that Propecia include a warning about long lasting erectile dysfunction in 2011, and updated it in April 2012 to include other possible sexual side effects such as libido, ejaculation and orgasm disorders.
Individuals who experienced Propecia side effects such as sexual dysfunction and depression should consider filing a Propecia lawsuit. Those who suffered from Propecia side effects may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. The lawyers at Bernstein Liebhard LLP are currently evaluating and investigating potential Propecia claims.
