Historic Tuscan Wine Producer Camigliano Launches Live Webcam at Estate
First live feed of Montalcino´s unique microclimate is now available on Camigliano website.
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 14, 2012
A leader in the Montalcino wine community, Camigliano continues to innovate by installing the first Brunello webcam that allows enthusiasts, buyer and critics to see the unique weather of the estate in real time.
The webcam is located on the roof of the residence of the Ghezzi family, the owners of Camigliano and one of the families that founded the Consorzio di Brunello. From this roof located in a small Medieval village of 32 residents, Brunello enthusiasts from all over the world can see the weather conditions as they happen in the 222 acres of Camigliano vineyards.
The live feed, supplied by Meteo System srl, a custom weather service provider, was an idea born out of Camigliano´s need for customized weather forecasts for their exact location. While the Montalcino region is not expansive, the weather within the area varies greatly. The Camigliano estate routinely experiences weather five or six degrees warmer than the town of Montaclino, located only seven miles away. Other important factors such as wind and rain also fluctuate greatly.
“Weather is a more nuanced influence in Montalcino than in some other wine regions. Here it not only separates one wine region from another, but one neighbor from another,” says Paola Falabretti, export manager at Camigliano. “Micro-weather makes us treat our vineyards differently than other Brunello producers and, ultimately, this affects the final wines. We wanted to be able to share the unique experience the Camigliano vineyards with the wine drinkers around the world who enjoy our wines.”
Going into the end of the growing season when weather plays its most crucial role, Camigliano fans will be able to check in on the webcam from the estate site:
Acquired in 1957 by entrepreneur Walter Ghezzi, who was very fond of agriculture, Camigliano was converted to the production of high-quality wines, in particular Brunello di Montalcino. A co-founder of the Consorizio di Brunello and an active member of the winemaking community, he passed his vinicultural passion to his son, Gualtiero, who continues to run the estate to the present day. Gualtiero, put a lot of effort into the modernization of the winery, constructing a new underground winery that has optimal winemaking conditions while preserving the beautiful, Tuscan landscape. Today, Camigliano consists of 1,310 acres of land, 22 acres of which are vineyards. 123 acres are dedication to the production of Brunello di Montalcino, including Gualto Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, the jewel of the Camigliano line.
