Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office, et al., CV2012-000320) settled a personal injury claim against the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Department for $215,000.00. He sustained injuries when his vehicle was rear-ended by a sheriff´s deputy driving a police SUV.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) September 04, 2012

Scott Beckstrom, a Peoria resident, settled a personal injury claim against the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Department for two hundred fifteen thousand dollars ($215,000.00) for injuries he sustained when his vehicle was rear-ended by a sheriff´s deputy driving a police SUV. Mr. Beckstrom was represented by Phoenix attorney Michael Córdova.

According to the claim in January 2011, Scott Beckstrom was stopped due to traffic conditions on the State Route 101 in Tolleson, Arizona. Christopher Dauch, a Maricopa County Deputy Sheriff, was driving a fully marked Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office Ford Expedition approximately fifty-five miles per hour when he looked away from the road and failed to realize traffic was stopped in front of him. Officer Dauch´s vehicle slammed into Mr. Beckstrom´s vehicle pushing it to the left and causing it to crash into the cable barrier.

According to hospital records Scott Beckstrom was taken to St. Jospeh´s Hospital and Medical Center for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, Mr. Beckstrom remained in the hospital´s trauma unit for three days. He was diagnosed with a closed head injury, a scalp laceration, which required stitches and left a six-inch scar on his forehead, and multiple contusions.

A Notice of Claim was filed on behalf of Mr. Beckstrom by the Law Offices of Michael Cordova against the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Department and Deputy Dauch on July 8, 2011 and again on October 10, 2011. Shortly thereafter, Michael Córdova filed a lawsuit on behalf of Scott Beckstrom against the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Department and Deputy Dauch on January 9, 2012, Beckstrom v. Maricopa County Sheriff´s Office, et al., CV2012-000320. The Plaintiffs argued that Deputy Dauch negligently operated his vehicle when he took his eyes off the road causing Mr. Beckstrom´s injuries. In addition, it was argued the Maricopa County Sheriff´s Department was vicariously liable for the actions of Deputy Dauch as he was on duty at the time of the collision.

Ultimately, the parties resolved the claims without proceeding to trial. The lawsuit was dismissed as part of a settlement agreement paying Mr. Beckstrom $215,000.00 in damages.
