Thursday marked the Chicago Association of Realtors’ 129th Annual Inaugural Gala, celebrated at the Intercontinental Hotel with all due pomp and circumstance. The evening served as an occasion to recognize the industry’s most accomplished and influential realtors, those individuals who have contributed both to real estate and to the city as a whole. More specifically, CAR wished to celebrate real estate professionals who have demonstrated success in the market, influence in the industry, and involvement in the community.

The event commenced with the introduction of the 2012-2013 CAR Board of Directors, including Ezekial Morris of Keller Williams as President, Matt Farrell of Urban Real Estate as President-Elect, and Hugh Rider of Realty & Mortgage Co. as Treasurer. Also installed as a Director is Urban Real Estate’s, Matt Silver. CAR CEO Ginger Downs followed by initiating the presentation of the 2012 Association Awards. Notable distinctions given throughout the evening include the Affiliate of the Year, awarded to Tammy Hajjar of Bank of America, and Realtor of the Year, awarded to Mabél Guzmán of @properties. In addition to these and other accolades, CAR also recognized the achievements of Richard Zisook, Principal, Sandz Development Co. & Richard Builders, Inc. For his various industry contributions over the past four decades, Zisook was selected as this year’s CAR Hall of Fame Inductee.

The evening culminated with remarks by CAR’s President, Ezekial Morris. Although Morris’s speech touched on the relevant issues of today’s market and the work ahead for CAR’s incoming Board members, it truly stressed the value he placed on community involvement, as well. Perhaps the most significant piece to take away from Morris’s speech is the ability of real estate to shape urban development, not solely in the form of townhomes, condominiums, and office spaces, but also in the form of communal spaces, parks, and green spaces for the city’s communities. Morris emphasized the city’s progress, while simultaneously making attendees aware of the work still to be done.
