MultiPlan Awards $30,000 in Grants to Hospitals
Four rural hospitals to receive $7,500 each from MultiPlan
New York, NY (PRWEB) October 01, 2012
MultiPlan, Inc., the nation’s oldest and largest provider of independent PPO networks, today announced the recipients of its 2012 Rural Health Outreach Grant Program.
The company revised the program for 2012, which historically awarded ten grants of $3,000 each. This year, four grant recipients were selected from 139 applications and represent a diverse array of programs focused on improving the health of people living in rural areas. Grant recipients will each receive $7,500 to help them introduce or expand services, education, screenings and other healthcare related endeavors that support the well being of the people in their communities.
The recipients of the 2012 MultiPlan Rural Health Outreach Grant are:
Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services, in Salem, Kentucky will use its grant to expand its emergency pediatric resuscitation capabilities, along with purchasing the following items for Injury Prevention programs: first aid kits to give away at community health fairs, teddy bears for kindergarten students attending their Trauma Bear Fair, and bicycle helmets for first graders completing their Bicycle Safety Course.
Crane Memorial Hospital in Crane, Texas will sponsor its annual community-wide health fair for unemployed and disadvantaged residents of Crane County. The fair provides healthcare education and preventative screenings, as well as flu and pneumonia vaccines.
Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kansas will expand its Concussion and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury program. Grant funds will pay for education materials for physicians, athletic coaches, parents and students, as well as ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) training and tests.
Custer Regional Hospital in Custer, South Dakota will use the grant to support a new program: Wellness Check Program for Disadvantaged Youth. The program will provide approximately 50 free wellness checks to eligible high school and middle school athletes. These wellness checks provide a more comprehensive view of the student’s health than a standard sports physical.
